Here are some frequently asked questions about becoming a host?
What IS required of a host?
A host, is not a true traditional term of host. It isn't required for you to greet the families as they arrive. Guests can enter the yard through a side gate, rather than through the home. The homeowner doesn't need to be home during the duration of the lessons.
Are restrooms required to be available?
If the host doesn't have a restroom with access from the pool area, then we can offer restrooms as an emergency basis only. And ask for them to be as dry as possible before entering the residence. Many families don't necessarily stay long enough to need the facilities. More families that are present form 2 or more lessons may need the restroom. Families attending one lesson don't tend to need them unless it is an emergency.
How long would the pool be needed?
There are 12 hours of lessons. I'd love to have the ability to have two pools each week. 4 hosts total. With that said, I'm looking for a host from 7:50am-1:40pm and another host from 2:20pm-8:10pm. That would be about 5.5-6 hours. Lessons are Monday to Friday, unless their is a rain out. If a rain day is called, I will reschedule families for the following Saturday.
Concerned about liability?
First off, my business practice is covered through liability insurance. In addition, I am Lifeguard and CPR certified. Due to all lessons being private lessons, the opportunity for risk is minimal, as I am directing and guiding each swimmer individually. This isn't a situation where children or adults will be unsupervised.
Does your pool need to have specific requirements to host?
I have worked in many different sized pools. With new swimmers, the size of the pool doesn't matter. With swimmers that are ages 4 and up, it would be nice to have a larger pool, but not more of an added benefit than a requirement.
What about my pets?
If you have dogs that need to go out a few times throughout the lessons, typically that isn't an issue. I'd suggest checking with the family watching lessons to see if they or their children are comfortable with the dog(s) coming out of the house. In general, most people are comfortable, but in the off chance that someone isn't, it helps to ask. Also, the dogs walking around the yard don't interrupt the lessons. Sometimes, they are a welcomed distraction and an added way to connect with the swimmer.
What about pool maintenance?
If you have a pool with a waterfall feature or slide, It would be great if they can be on for at least Thursday and Friday's lessons. Pool cleaners would need to be taken out. I try to help the homeowner, by sweeping out the debris and removing/returning the pool cleaner before and after each day's lessons.
Does a host receive a discount?
Hosts do not receive a discount. Hosts will have the benefit of being able to walk to their lessons. There is the added joy of getting to peek out and watch the growth of each of the swimmers throughout the week. It is amazing to see their progress, not only with your child, but the confidence in each one that walks through your gates that week. Plus, you'll have the opportunity to meet amazing families from your community.
Due to COVID-19, I have started implementing new protocols to follow the CDC guidelines. If you’re interested in hosting, I’d love to talk with you about what I will do to provide a safe environment for all participants.
